books and me

i have been thinking....for quite sometime now.
what is the best way to read books.

all my life, i have been of the impatient and restless kind.
i would pick up a book, and then, get bored (or maybe tired) and drop it midway.
sometimes i would come back to it, sometimes i wont.
so there must have been quite a few books which i have left unfinished on my way to where i am now.
i didnt care about it when i had no strands of white hair(i.e. when i was a kid, and no - I havent turned all grey, only a few evidences of maturity), but off late, I get this feeling of guilt whenever i end up not reading a book.
the decision is much more concious now, i drop a book when i find it extremely boring, or when i feel that ,at this point of time, the book is not going to add value to me. And rarely, but sometimes, i do miss completing a book because the due date in the library is right on my head.

another possible reason for this might be the fact that i generally read more than one book at a time. one night it will be michael lewis book, and on another day, it might be a andy kessler book. work pressure, household chores etc sometimes eats more of time than it should, and there i am, the library due date staring me, and i have one or more book unfinished. Bad, really bad.
sometimes i do manage to get the book reissued , but that is rarely possible, since there are more than one "holds" on the book.....yet another chance lost.

so what works for me......let me go out and find my way......
