I opened the door. The packet had arrived. The size was disappointing, no maroon T I figured. I let that thought go. Ripped the tape apart, found a few letters. Checked if Miss Rose Martinelli had actually signed the letter, or was it printed. She had probably anticipated that there are people like me. Had signed the letter in ink. I was happy. Then read the letter from the adcom who had called. He had mentioned something I had mentioned to him when we talked. Was that a matter of chance, or had he personalized the letter ? I decided I will believe that he indeed had.
Inside, I also found a thick curriculum guide. I checked to see how many of the professors came from my country. I would definitely take their classes. Found one who went to the same undergrad as me. Felt glad. Left the rest of the pages to be devoured later.
One letter had a login. Login to the world of GSB. Login to my GSB email id. Login to an opportunity to meet new people. Login to find out if they are as interesting as the adcom thinks they are. Login to make new friends. Login to a new career. Login to a new beginning. I kicked up the browser. I typed my password, went in.
The infrastructure looked impressive. Admit discussion boards. Details about curriculum, financial aid and healthcare. About pre-MBA classes, about the nightmare that is the US visa. Somebody seemed to be shouting on the right of the screen. It was the "Highlights". The "Upcoming Fellowship Deadlines - April 6" stood out from among the "Highlights" crowd. I went to check it out.
Not being a Israeli, or a marketing guy, or a female helped. There weren't many scholarships/fellowships for me. I took a deep breath, relaxed. Then my eyes fell on one. That was for me, I knew we were a great fit for each other. Probably many other recent admits were thinking so. Who among us will get picked. Competition yet again.
That didn't deter me. I clicked the link, Adobe sprung to life. A big essay was needed. I gave up, instead conjured up this post for you. No need, dont thank me. I am very happy anyways.

Yes man the C thing is keeping me busy and making me travel a bit too..
Hey hey. Duke, I probably doubt it -- it's either gonna be Michigan, Berkeley, or another year of applications. :)
Congrats again, fer shure...I hope I'll have a packet with my name on it coming sometime. :)
lol! yeah, even i saw a nice scholarship which requires yet another essay. AND also needs 2 references. Now, wild horses can't drag me into talking to my recommenders!!
And i got my Stern black tee at the interview :P
Sure, it seems kind of silly...this post might help explain why:

Probably, they in Chicago have more scholarships to distribute without application? I hope there are more pleasant surprises coming to you :)
Sounds pretty familiar :)
Pretty and Familiar :D
The admit website is really good and the forums are a great way to exchange information. I hope u signed up with the google group. There's a lot of information being exchanged there too :)
Nope.. not really running for anything. I was just there to share my apps, never expected a BoB nomination .. I am sure there are a lot better folks out there. am gonna vote for them.
