Was it Schumacher - or was it me { F1 blabber }

It is almost around a week's time now. But the memory lives by.
The place - San Marino, Italy.
My date scheduled at - the Imola F1 circuit, 12 noon(GMT).
My date with - I never thought it would be the smart and attractive ( no - loud and clear - I am not gay) Michael Schumacher...whom we all (people-who-dreamt-but-never-could-become-an-F1-champ) know as Schumi.

Imola was not very kind on Schumi earlier in the morning, as a result of which Schumi had to start the race from 14th in the grid ( For the F1-uninitiated, the grid looks like a series of V s, joined together like VVVVVV....and then rotated 90 degree anticlockwise. Each inflexion point has a driver positioned on it. ) Starting lower in the grid is a huge problem, because the driver has to negotiate himself from within the unruly traffic ahead of him, while the leader keeps on building the lead, with the benefit of a clear track on his side.

Through some strategic planning of pit stops, and the brilliance and abundant talent of Schumi, he was right up in the top 5 by the time the race reached its 50% mark. And from then on - there was no stopping Schumi. He nogotiated the turns on his 300 kmph machine with the ease that I would drive my bike at 20 kmph , maybe even more comfortably. He kept gaining time in each lap, reducing the 30 sec gap between himself and Jenson Button, then on second spot...and soon enough, with another brilliant move right out his bag, he overtook Button on one of the tough corners, and soon moved right on the tail on Fernando Alonso ( the championship leader at this time)... The last 10 laps were phenomenal performance by both Schumi and Alonso; Schumi kept trying to overtake Alonso, and Alonso - aided by some flawless driving and intelligent strategy(by positioning himself behind some back-markers*) held on to the position.

All in all - a very entertaining race, a thorough competition between the best drivers and the best cars, a good return for time spent.

* back-markers : participants of the race who are equal to or more than a lap behind the leader(or the racer in context). The unwritten F1 rule says that the back marker never competes with the leader and lets him overtake with ease.
