Matriculating at GSB ? Hmmmm....most likely :-)

Ok, for those who care, I dropped the application for the fellowship - attribute it to a mix of repulsiveness I feel thinking of writing an essay, and to another admit telling me that we don't qualify because of one clause. So there goes some big dollars. But who cares ? I guess I should.

Off late, I have been doing some Chicago admit website traveling - and am starting to realise how costly education actually is. I had a ball park figure in mind when I started off this bschool journey years back, but the current estimates are decently higher. Not that it will make me drop this MBA thing, but you do start rationalizing, don't you ? I humored myself by thinking how I would land that golden Goldman Sachs job, and make all this money in just one year. No one stops you from dreaming, right ? Even if it's daytime.

Now to the good part of the post. A nice lady emailed me a couple of days back, inviting to a local get-together of fellow GSB R1 and R2 admits. I was pleasantly surprised to see the email because I didn't realise they can find us through an easy directory scan. Even more surprising was that there is a good number of people from this small town of mine (most likely) heading to the GSB [ the title of the post is inspired by the fact that except the R1 folks, many R2 folks are still considering going to be the GSB, although it's still not written in stone].

So we met up a couple of days back, though not all of us. Although I wont go the length to say that these were the best and smartest folks I have ever met (simply because I cannot judge people in one meeting), one thing is certain, I had a very good time with all of them. There was a good mix of people, although the banker-consultant fraternity dominated the group. We went to an ethnic Turkish place, had hearts-full of wine, and an amazing array of all sort of platters, chips, and many kinds of meat - I am really oblivious of what all I ate.

Discussions happened around pulling the leg of the one person among us who had a scholarship, to what book or movie we had recommended in our essay. We got to know each other, figured out who is going to get married and who will hit the road single, who is going to which Random Walk, and why we should just chuck off our initial order of beer to substitute it with wine ( the happy hours were on, and there was a 1-on-1 offer going).

All in all it was a great couple of hours spent. We will all be meeting up again soon for the Worldwide GSB night, so I am hoping that would be another post for you all.

Au revoir!!

The GSB night is awesome. I attended one in my city yesterday night, and it was really good :)

I'm sure u'll like it too.

As for ur questioning on housing - i wanna live close to school, partying everyday is not a priority and traveling occasionally for events in downtown makes more sense to me compared to traveling everyday to school :)

And all the best for BoB!

Yea..the Visa thing scares definitely. But it is real pain to write these fellowship essay (s) within one week of admit. Let me remain in dreams Chi. Why so much torture so soon?

Wow - forgot all about that "convincing people to vote for me" thing...Gotta come up with a speech.

MAP's going well. I've got a love hate relationship with it. Love the learning, client, my team. Hate the amount of time it's taking.

Congratulations are in order for the really important stuff...the BoB nomination! B-school admission...well you may have not known it, but all of us out here in the blogosphere knew you'd be going to B-school this year so that's no surprise ;-)

And Yes, I totally remember crying about how CA never paid my any attention. I feel so important now ;-)

You're right about the waitlists man.
Guess we can also add this point to the wishlist: An email from the adcom saying they've decided to do away with the concept of WLs.

Tuck's not gonna say anything before mid-May it seems :(

It is not necessary that we send them emails before selecting the mentor. But i just used the liberty of being an admit and shot emails to them, to get to know them better. Not everyone replied - i must add :)
